The Memory at On On Hotel - The Oldest but FASCINATING
In 1927, the first hotel in Phuket was built and known in Chinese as “Un Un Hotel”. The name was later changed to “On On Hotel” for easy pronunciation in Thai and English.
The hotel appeared in the scene of “The Beach” in 2000, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, made the hotel more famous.
The architecture of the Memory at On On Hotel is a hark back to the Sino-Portuguese style accommodations of the Phuketians in the past.

- Location: The BEST in Phuket Old Town. Located in the heart of the town.
- Atmosphere: MAGNIFICENT decoration. Beyond expectations, especially if you like old style.
- Room: CLEAN and COMFORTABLE
- Service: FRIENDLY and HELPFUL staff.
Are there any downsides?
Yes.
Since the hotel is almost 100 years old. It has been renovated from time to time but the main structure still remains (I guess) with wooden walls and wooden floors.
So, the room is not quiet. It is not soundproof. You can hear people in adjacent rooms talking and walking. Hearing people leaving rooms, loud doors opening and closing.
Please take this into consideration if you’re going to book this hotel.
In Conclusion
Among hundreds of hotels in Phuket, most of them were built after Phuket becomes a world-class destination, but On On has a history and uniqueness.
I can feel the old-style charm of Sino-Portuguese architecture from the moment I walked into the hotel area.
So, this 100-year-old hotel is so impressive. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND to everyone.
