My Rating
- Location: Close to Phuket International Airport and located right at Maikhao Beach, a famous plane spotting beach. However, you need a private vehicle because the hotel is remote from other attractions.
- Atmosphere: The exterior decoration look-alike Thai and Chinese temples mixed. Quiet, peaceful and close to the beach.
- Room: Huge room. At this price, it is the biggest room I’ve ever visited.
- Service: FRIENDLY staff. They were nice but no one helped us carry luggage from the parking because no standby staff in the front parking area.
Are there any downsides?
Yes.
As mentioned, you need a private vehicle to get to the hotel. In Google Maps, the hotel appears to be very close to Phuket International Airport, however it still takes around 15-20 minutes to get there. Because the only way to the airport is by taking a detour road.
Not many restaurants nearby the hotel, but one of the famous restaurants around here is Kin Dee Restaurant. We tried it and we really enjoyed the food and atmosphere.
Hint: Kin Dee restaurant is quite popular; avoid peak hours (after 7 PM) to prevent long lines. Otherwise, you should make a reservation in advance.
After finishing the dinner, I drove back to Maikhao Palm Beach Resort. The hotel can be reached by the north road (Soi Mai Khao 8) and the south road (So Mai Khao 7).
The north road was so dark, I mean really really dark. And on the left side are abandoned buildings, which I noticed throughout the day when driving about to explore nearby.
This way looks to be somewhat unsafe to me, so I chose to turn around and took a slight detour to enter the south road instead. I recommend you to take the south road especially if you ride a motorbike.
In Conclusion
Maikhao Palm Beach Resort is a decent choice if you’re looking for a hotel that is not far from the airport, a comfortable and large room, and a quiet environment. (I stayed in April 2022, Phuket is not fully recovered from COVID-19 yet.)
If you like to play in a swimming pool or have kids, they will enjoy the pool because it is incredibly long, possibly the longest in Phuket. A Deluxe Pool Access room would be a great choice.
The outside decoration, which is like a temple, differentiates it from other hotels. However, the room decorating is not yet perfect; I like the bathtub with the elephant head, but the bedroom furniture is mismatched.
The hotel is far from Phuket city center and other popular attractions, so it is a good choice for staying a night or two when arriving or before leaving Phuket because it’s close to the airport.
